Applications and characteristics:
 JZ205 type thermal-shielding catalyst is prepared by high temperature calcination, which contains a small amount of nickel as its active component and alumina as its support. It is used in the top part of the secondary reformer of the large and medium sized ammonia plants as a thermal shield for Z204 type catalyst. Its performance is well adapted to the specific operating environment and conditions in the top of the secondary reformer. Furthermore, it is more resistant to high temperature and gas impingement.

Heat resistance: It offers a long-term on stream service at 1350℃ and a stable structure during operation at high temperatures. Itcan be subjected to thermal shocks ang will not cake when operated at 1450℃. Besides, it is characterized by good resistance to sudden heat and cold.
Activity inspection: JZ205 type catalyst principally provides thermal shielding for the secondary reforming catalyst. The activity of Z205 type catalyst is not the main factor, but its heat resistance  and strength are the key criteria. It is, therefore, unnecessary to inspect its activity according to the respective regulations of HG 2273.3-2004 .
Requirements for feedstock and  poison:
1、Sulfur is the major poison for nickel-based catalyst。It  is required that sulfur content in feed gas to the reformer tube as low as possible, normally<0.5ppm,preferably<0.2ppm。    .
2 .Chlorine and other halogens may poison the catalyst, and it is difficult for the poisoned catalyst to restore its activity. Hence, the lower the chlorine content in feed gas, the better.
3、Arsenic may bring about a permanent deactivation of catalyst, and there should not be any arsenic in feed gas。
4、The steam used should not contain any condensable liquids or chemicals used for treating boiler feed-water besides chlorine and arsenic.

Arsenic may cause the thermal shield to deactivate permanently, and feed gas should not contain any arsenic Feed gas is not allowed to contain such poisons as copper, lead,etc. which may make catalyst activity decrease as well. the steam used is not allowed to contain any condensable liquids and chemicals used for treating boiler feed-water.
